"We're all a little out of our minds."

It's been exactly two years since 30 Seconds to Mars stopped by NYLON's offices right before they kicked off their massive world tour for their album This is War. Now 300 shows, dozens of countries, and about 720 days later, Jared Leto has officially come full circle and touched down back in New York, joining forces with Samsung to ring in the milestone show with the Galaxy S II. Leto phoned in last night to talk about how the band plans to celebrate this record-setting performance, the stamps on his passport, and why touring is kind of like running up a mountain.

Q: Tell us about this "virtual concert" you guys are doing...
A: Over the years we've had a lot of requests around the world to do a live streaming of the show, but we didn't want to just livestream a performance. A lot of times things mess up and that leaves viewers frustrated. So we're doing a high-quality broadcast of the New York show and letting people watch it socially around the globe.

Q: So you can talk with different fans who are watching it, too?
A: You can share and talk to each other and participate in a way that you can't even participate in if you were actually at the concert. A camera will be backstage with us before and after the show, there will be some surprises...it'll be amazing.

Q: After 300 performances, do any shows stand out in your mind?
A: It's been insane. We've been to the People's Republic of China, and watched the sunrise in Lebanon. We've played in the Middle East, South Africa, Russia, Australia...we've been around the world so many times, it's hard to pick a most memorable show.

Q: Which Guinness World Record did 30 Seconds to Mars break?
A: It's "the most amount of shows ever played through the same album cycle."  We're all a little out of our minds and have been on the road probably all too long, but the rewarding aspect is getting to know all these different cultures around the world. That’s been a really unique path to walk on for over two years. It’s a nice way to end how we’re doing it, in NYC; it's like we're coming back to where we first started.

Q: What's the secret to staying motivated show after show?
A: You learn to tour. if you’re on the road for over two years like we have you learn to do it. You do it in a way that is in a way that will help you win…mentally, physically, and emotionally. It’s like running up a rocky mountain with flip-flops or barefoot, and then running up the mountain in sneakers. I grew up with a hippie mom who had a great deal of wanderlust and was trained for this existence.

Q: It's hard to believe it's been two years since you did the NYLON Guys cover...
A: Holy shit! That’s crazy…..you forget how long two years can really be. I feel like we've all changed so much; we've all grown up in a way.
